Why did you choose to come to The Bulmershe School?

When I was still in primary school, I went on a "fishbowl day" to Bulmershe. Experiencing a day of school here, participating in lessons led by enthusiastic teachers made me feel comfortable despite the unfamiliar environment. Paired with positive anecdotes I heard that Bulmershe is a safe environment where students succeed, I was confident regarding my choice!

How has The Bulmershe School inspired you to strive for your aspirations and dreams?  

When my GCSE exams were approaching, all my teachers were there to support me in improving my grade. They were happy to explain something again or give me advice on answering exam questions. I had the sense that my teachers were as invested in my success as I was myself. I know that my teachers are here to give me a leg up toward my next pursuit. I feel inspired to keep working when I get told the school is here for helping us move onto the next step.

How do you feel the co-curricular (extra-curricular clubs, trips, opportunities) experience at The Bulmershe School has benefited you? 

I have had the amazing opportunity to develop my leadership and management skills as well as build friendships through my participation in the Geo-leaders club. I am very glad I decided to get more involved than joining debate, starting with the foodbank trip, I was welcomed in by students and teachers.

Bulmershe has also allowed me to go on fabulous trips taking me far from home. I got to build shelters and sleep in the open air during the Bushcraft trip, gain the experience of speaking French in real life scenarios at the Lille Christmas Market and try skiing in Italy which I never would have been able to do otherwise.

What would you say is your favourite moment so far in your time at The Bulmershe School? 

I had great fun at the start of Year 7 when I met my tutor group and the rest of my year group. I got to meet new people, many of whom I’m friends with to this day. It was a great opportunity, particularly because I went to a small primary school so there were only so many people to reach out to. I also enjoyed the start of year twelve where similarly I met new people but also got to see how far we have come as a year group.

What is your favourite subject and why?  

My interests have varied over time. I used to really enjoy the humanities when I was starting secondary school. While I still think those are important, now my favourite subject is Maths. I was not committed beyond what was expected of me during my earlier years at school but I have taken a liking to it. I appreciate it for being widely applicable in many fields. Even when it is not directly useful, it is a way for you to demonstrate your problem solving ability which is a fundamental life skill.

What advice would you give to a student about to join The Bulmershe School? 

Starting at a new school can understandably be anxiety inducing but there is no need. Bulmershe is an inclusive community where everyone is rooting for you. Everyone around you is or once was in the same position as you. Do not hesitate to ask for help with anything, we have a wide network for supporting you!
